Choosing a climbing set is easier when you think in stages. Children change quickly, and the right set should change with them.
6–12 months: first pulling up and crawling
At this stage a low, simple piece is best. A climbing arch with a soft cushion lets babies crawl, pull up and explore under close supervision. It's gentle and low to the ground.
Climbing Arch + Cushion is a great first step.
1–2 years: confident climbing
Toddlers want to go higher and try everything. A Pikler triangle with a slide ramp and net offers new challenges while keeping a stable base. This is when a 4-in-1 set starts to pay off.
2–4 years: imagination takes over
The frame becomes a ship, a mountain, a shop. Look for sets with an arch/rocker, slide and cushion so one piece can play many roles.
4–7 years: bigger, bolder and creative
Older children like challenge and variety. Multi-piece sets (including an easel for drawing) or a Swedish wall keep them engaged. Check the maximum load: models typically range from 30 to 100 kg.
Quick buying rules
- Buy for the next year, not just today. A set with add-ons saves you from buying twice.
- Prefer natural wood and water-based paint.
- Check recommended age and load on every product page.
- Leave space around the set and put a mat beneath it.
