Winter and long rainy spells test every parent's patience. The good news: with a few simple setups, your living room can become a very good playground.
Climbing and balance games
- Mountain expedition. Climb the triangle to "plant a flag" (a soft toy works well) at the top.
- Lava floor. Floor is lava, the frame is safe! Keep a soft mat underneath.
- Bridge walk. Place a board or the arch upside down and cross it like a bridge.
- Rocker boat. Turn the arch into a boat and sail across the sea. Add a teddy passenger.
Slide and ramp games
- Toy cars race. Roll cars down the slide board and see whose goes furthest.
- Slide, crawl, repeat. A simple climb-up, slide-down loop is a favourite for toddlers.
- Soft-toy delivery. Climb up, deliver the toy to "the top of the mountain", slide back.
Imagination games
- Build a den. Drape a blanket over the frame for an instant hideout.
- Shop or café. The slide board makes a wonderful counter.
- Zoo or jungle. Everyone climbs, jumps, and moves like an animal.
Calm-down games
- Reading nook. Under the arch with a cushion, a book and a small light.
- Drawing corner. Sets with an easel let children draw standing up, which feels like a real artist's studio.
Safety reminders
- Always put a soft mat beneath climbing equipment.
- Stay nearby with younger children.
- Let your child decide how high to go.
The best part? All these games use one piece of furniture. That is why many families call a climbing set the most-used item in the house.
